Thousands of years of history haunt the paths which link the 3 Kingdoms.
The Iberians had already opened up the Iberian Peninsula by use of the Ebro River by the time the Romans crossed the river with the “Via Augusta” road and started working on its olive trees lands.
Tortosa, is a city with two thousand years of history, where three cultures coexisted in harmony in the middle ages: the Jewish, Arabian and Christian. It was from here that General Cabrera, who legend converted into the “Tiger of the Maestrat”, started the conquest of Morella during the Carlist wars.
From Valencia people came to the Ebro Delta to work in the rice fields and from Aragon people descended into the valleys bringing their cattle with them. And all these paths eventually joined the three kingdoms together.
LOCATION
Location: Between the south of Catalunya, the north of Valencia and the south-East of Aragon, the territory has six airports in a radius of 200km and many connections by road and train.
Climate: The Mediterranean is well known for its pleasant climate with a high percentage of sunny days and ever milder and shorter winters. Only sometimes, during the cold days of January or February, does it snow on the peaks of the Ports mountain range. Hot and dry summers are experienced in the months of July and August. It is therefore very pleasant to visit the 3 Kingdoms territory throughout most of the year.
Geography: With the exception of the steep and demanding topography of the The Ports mountain range, the rest of the territory is a mixture of plains, such as the Delta de l’Ebre, Montsià and Bajo Aragón Historico and the river valleys that link different regions together, such as Cervol River, the Matarranya or The Val de Zafan.
THE LEGEND
There is a legend that tells of the Tossal del Rei (1.350m Els Ports Mountain Range), a geographical point, where the three ancient kingdoms of Aragó, Valencia and Catalunya intersect, and where three kings celebrated their meetings, sitting in their respective territories, to solve their conflicts. This strategic spot permitted the meetings to go ahead without each king needing to leave his own kingdom, while being protected by his own army.
ONE CITY AND TWO TOWNS
The city and the two towns with an important historical and cultural legacy in Spain: Tortosa, Morella and Alcanyís. Each of them has been the scene of key moments throughout the centuries, standing out for their importance in different civilisations, from antiquity to the Middle Ages. These cities have preserved their heritage through monuments and structures that reflect their rich history and the passage of different cultures.

The 3 Kingdoms route and its extensions pass through natural spaces of great ecological value which require our protection, respect and care.
The Ebro Delta Natural Park, The Ports Natural Park and The Tinença de Benifassà Natural Park and a UNESCO biosphere reserve are part of the 3 Kingdoms territory.
The Ebro Delta Natural Park and The Ports Natural Park are also certified with the European Charter of Sustainable tourism (ECST).
